Dia de los Muertos: Floral installation at @ChottoMatteMIA

We had the great challenge and enormous pleasure of creating a Día de Los Muertos look and feel for Chotto Matte's interiors. This Nikkei restaurant has a stunning decoration and its very own architectural and interior style, so one of our many aims was to merge their vibes and add in our whole new concept. For this project we traveled to our loved Mexico, to find the perfect accessories, elements, and of course, the ideal flowers that will give life and wowness to our design.

At My Flower Fairy we firmly believe in translating our life story in every piece we create, and the Día de los Muertos was no exception. As a mexican-american family this was a great opportunity to express our heritage and to tell a story that is very close to our hearts. So when we were asked to do this flower installation, we didn't hesitate to go to the best place to get the perfect materials for this task.

We got to travel to our beloved Mexico, where every flower, object, and symbol was personally chosen to show the special meaning of this festivity, which is to remember with joy our friends and family who have passed away.

This trip was the first step to complete this journey of this story.

The work behind flower decorations: There's more to it than what meets the eye

Our flower vision for this event was big, so we knew we needed our big team. After weeks of planning, we decided that our installation would have hanging flowers and suspended floral arrangements, hanging floral walls, backdrop flowers and table ornaments to create a sense of an altar, typically shown in Día de los Muertos holiday. Also, we chose yellow, pink, magenta, and orange flowers like marigolds, to respect the traditional way to honor the dead.

We hand made every paper sugar skull decoration to give the perfect image of a design that would appear to be handcrafted but also very cool and stylish. These objects were the ones that got a lot of work and love while creating and picking them.

Last but not least, we had our favorite ornaments, the Calaveras, a common symbol of the holiday is the skull (in Spanish calavera), which celebrants represent in masks, called calacas.

This floral installation is one of the works that makes us most proud, and working with this story reminded us why we love what we do. It was hard and meticulous work that gave us the opportunity to show our roots and also…what we are best at.

The final product: hanging flower arrangements and a beautiful celebration

Finally, the day of celebration came and Chotto Matte`s presented this final product of love and many days of work to a very moved audience.
We never cease to amaze what we can achieve and the beautiful difference that a world of flowers can bring to the room.

We invite you to see every step of this installation and get infected by the power of flowers.
